Warm Up with Ben van Dijk

Slide Factory starts this festivalday with a warmup session lead by Ben van Dijk. Van Dijk puts his daily routines, which he will use undoubtedley during the warmup, in his book “ Ben’s basics”.

Music Market

During the festival many companies will show their instruments and products at the special Music Market. Experts are ready to answer all your questions. There will also be short presentations from representatives of the different brands on a stage in the middle of the music market. These presentations will be from 11.00-12.00 and from 13.00-14.00. So come to take a look for yourself between all activities or at another suitable moment.

Clinic Meet the maestros

Joseph Alessi and Christian Lindberg, probably the world’s most famous classical trombonists, each will play a piece. Alessi will play the world premiere of a piece especially written for him: “Love's Notes” by Nicola Ferro. Lindberg will play his own piece for solo trombone: “Joe Jack Binglebandit”. Furthermore they will give explanations and the audience can ask questions.

10.30 – 15.30 | City of Rotterdam

Quartet Relay

International trombone students of conservatories from New York, Lyon, Lausanne, Berlin, and Rotterdam will have taken master classes in the week before the start of Slide Factory and they have formed ensembles. They walk through the city in trios or quartets as if they were real street musicians. They pop up everywhere in the city, on every corner of every street, in shopping malls, at the train station, or in the middle of the street with short surprise concerts. Trombone music spreads all over the city and it all ends in a big spectacle on the Schouwburgplein: Meet the World.

Workshops

Take your trombone to Slide Factory and participate in one of the workshops given by professional teachers and members of the New Trombone Collective. The workshops are suitable for participants of all levels and ages.

There are three kinds of workshops classical/jazz:
• Individual lesson
• Ensemble coaching
• Accompanied ensemble

Young Trombone Collective

The New Trombone Collective was looking toward the festival for the best talents among the youngest trombone players in the Netherlands. From all over Holland these trombonists came together on the selection day in January. The most talented trombonists will be selected and they will make their debut during Slide Factory 2009 as the Young Trombone Collective.

Music Education in Europa

Niels-Ole Bo Johansen, Chris Houlding, and George Wiegel, all three masters in teaching the trombone, compare the educational systems of the various countries where they taught. Nils knows Scandinavia well, Chris knows England and Germany, and George the Benelux. Maybe one of these gentlemen can’t resist the temptation to play a piece…

Guest stars: soloists of Slide Factory

Michel Becquet, Chris Houlding, Niels-Ole Bo Johansen, Brandt Attema, Jörgen van Rijen and Peter Moore will come on stage to play and show something completely different than they usually do. The soloists will bring their own favourite music or even an experimental new piece. Diversity, originality and tension are main ingredients of this recital. Alla Libo - piano, Astrid Haring - harp.

Rehearsel Square Spectacle “Meet the World”

Before the square spectacle there’s a rehearsal with all participants directed by Andrew Peggie. The music parts will be available at this site half February.

Square Spectacle “Meet the world”

Don’t miss this! All trombonists having participated in Slide Factory come together at the Schouwburgplein for an international music spectacle. Musicians from different cultures in Rotterdam will play along, like the Antillean Brass Band School and African percussionists. The creative multi talent Andrew Peggie has composed a special piece for this occasion in which different continents are musically represented and in which the audience will actively participate. In the week before the festival he prepares different groups from Rotterdam for this fantastic event.

The Young Sinatras

They shine at the Slide Factory 2009. The Young Sinatras consist of 10 ambitious Dutch musicians. Since 2002 they have torn down roofs of music halls in the Netherlands and are a top act on European festivals – a revival of the 60’s but in a modern way! Free entrance!
