Northern light

When Christian Lindberg was the main guest at the Slide Factory 2005 festival we had a dream. After four years this dream has become a reality. The trombonists of the New Trombone Collective and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra are playing the world premiere of a piece from the most celebrated and famous trombonist ever: Christian Lindberg. Lindberg also conducts the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in his new role as international conductor. Light and darkness are the themes in Scandinavian music. Nielsen steers in Helios the sun god with a fiery carriage along the sky. Lindberg lets the New Trombone Collective shine over the orchestra like a midsummer sun. Sibelius’ Swan of Tuonela paints the black river of the underworld, whereas in Rautavaara’s Symphony Nr. 7 Angel of Light, a new day is born.
