Take your trombone to Slide Factory,
print
your parts and participate in the Square Spectacle.
(If possible please bring your own music stand!!)
At the Schouwburgplein all
participating trombonists of Slide Factory come together for
an international musical spectacle. Musicians from different
cultures in Rotterdam will join in, like the Antillean Brass
Band School and African percussionists. The creative multi-talent
Andrew Peggie (United Kingdom) has composed a special piece of
music in which the different continents are represented and in
which the audience can actively participate.
At the Schouwburgplein four platforms will be built forming a star. Each star represents a continent. On each platform instruments from that specific continent will be present, for example: djembes for Africa, drums for North America, and samba for South America; all accompanied by an impressive number of trombonists.
Each continent presents a piece of music, starting with the instrument specific for the continent and with more and more trombones playing along in the same style. Between the acts a fifth group of trombones moves from one continent to the other while playing a refrain.
After the last act they go to a central platform and then the refrain will be played by all continents together. This will create a spectacular surround effect. At first all instruments will keep playing but in the end only the trombones will play and close off the performance.
In the week previous to the festival Andrew Peggie will prepare the different groups from Rotterdam for this fantastic concert.
