New Trombone Collective |
With the use of special jazz music and projects Urbie
Green was one of the first trombonists who made it clear
that the trombone is much more than just an orchestral
instrument. 21 trombones, one of his most
famous albums, consists even only of trombones and has
become a true classic that reaches far more people than
a few admiring trombonists. At this concert the music of
the album is played live by the New Trombone Collective,
featuring “the present
day Urbie Greens”: Mark Nightingale, Bart van Lier
and Jiggs Whigham.
Preceding this spectacular crossover the New Trombone Collective,
together with Michel Becquet (guest soloist and teacher
of the classical music students). |

New Trombone Collective, Michel Becquet, Mark Nightingale |
This is the evening of the New Trombone Collective.
Musicality, creativity and solidarity go together with
this ensemble. In their relative short existence the New
Trombone Collective has conquered an important place in
the world of ensembles; in the Netherlands as well as internationally.
The New Trombone Collective always brings us surprising
presentations. And the level at which the ensemble performs
shows that the trombone has won an important place within
classical chamber music. With Michel Becquet and Mark Nightingale
as guest soloists accompanied by the New Trombone Collective,
this gala concert promises to become a titillating evening. |

Les Sacqueboutiers de Toulouse, Michel Becquet (guest) |
Conductor Daniel Lasalle has turned Les Sacqueboutiers
de Toulous into one of the most renowned ensembles in the
field of the saqueboute; the predecessor of the modern
trombone. For the festival audience as well as the regular
Sunday morning crowd in the Jurriaanse Zaal this concert
will be a revelation, with guest soloist Michel Becquet.
Splendid music played on instruments for which it was initially
written. Throughout history the trombone has shown that
it has been an inspiring instrument for both composers
and audience. It will be a refreshing and inspiring benchmark
at a festival of renewal and innovation. |
